Breaking into the American wrestling scene isn’t easy, especially being a foreigner, and in my case, Mexican, being different-unique is paramount to stand out and the way to do it, for me, was becoming extra efficient on the mic.  Ryan Katz was instrumental in the completion of such endeavor, to this day his advice and direction follows me every time you see me perform!! An absolute star maker!!

I remember my very first day at WWE. Walking in to the performance center, as awkward as can be, thousands of miles from home, and looking around a sea athletes , beauty queens, wrestlers I had watched growing up, and I have never felt more intimidated or like I didn’t belong.  Then, along came a man in a suit with the happiest face and the biggest smile and gave me exactly what I needed that day. Acceptance and kindness. His name was Ryan Katz .

To say he has had a monumental impact on my career would be underselling him.  As the years went by and I was close to getting fired on multiple occasions, Katz was a shoulder to lean on and a genius to riff off.  I believed I had something special to offer but not many people could see it, except Katz.  I would come to him with wacky ideas and he would take a germ of an idea and turn it into a masterpiece.  If you needed technical wizardry, Katz was your man. You needed creative genius, give Katz a call. You needed some tweaking to make something magical, you better believe you need Katz on the case.  But even more than that, more than technique, than footwork, than skill, what I needed was someone who believed in me and who would work with me without judgement to help me achieve my dreams and that was what Katz did for me.

Ryan is one of the greatest creative minds I’ve gotten to work with. And the hardest working lad you’ll ever cross.  Because of his huge skill level, in well, gosh, it seems like darn near every field , there was a lot that was demanded of him and he would show up and show out for every bit of it. Never complaining he was too tired, and would never be too busy to lend a helping hand or get a pair of (brilliant) eyes on something. No sir. He’d give you that patented Ryan Katz smile, make you feel like the most incredible person in the world , and help you conquer an industry.

He worked very closely with Dusty Rhodes. And anyone who knows anything about wrestling knows that when it comes to wrestling legends, they don’t get much bigger than Dusty.  The pair of them were like mashed potatoes and gravy, butter and toast, Mariah Carey and Christmas.  Dusty knows talent when he sees it - and he knew what he had in Katz. Dusty adored him and he trusted him . Dusty would get ideas for characters and ask Katz to work with the talent and together they would take a seed of an idea and turn it into a whole damn Forest .  If it wasn’t for the help I received from those two men, I’m not sure I would have made it today.

Even though it had been years since I had gotten to work side by side with Katz, after a year and a half of being away from the world of wrestling to give birth to my daughter, the first person I thought to ring when i was coming back was Katz.  As always, he answered right away, took my ideas, marinated on them, and helped me navigate an area I was very uncomfortable with at first turning “heel”.

I will never be able to thank Katz enough for what he has done for me.  And I will never be able to articulate how lucky anyone is to get to work with this man, to know this man and to learn from this man. He is an tremendous asset to the world of professional wrestling, and well, just the world in general. We need more Ryan Katz’s.

Ryan Katz helped me develop into a more confident performer in and out of the ring. He got me out of my shell by providing an expert’s opinion but doing so in a judgement free way. Always available to bounce ideas off of or vent, all while pushing me to get uncomfortable in the name and direction of productivity. He takes the time to understand who you are, what you are truly like, your strengths, weaknesses and goals, then advises; rather than jamming you into stereotypical roles. He is never afraid to step outside the box or challenge the status quo and that’s why he has and will continue to change the game along with anybody he works with! Katz is undeniable.

You know that teacher that every student wishes for, the guy in the office every one is excited to see, that one friend that can make you laugh or smile no matter what? That’s Ryan Katz.  Ryan was extremely instrumental in the progression of my career, especially when it came to my promo work. Ryan never allowed me, or anyone who was in the room with him to doubt themselves. He truly took the time to learn your story and listen to your concerns, and by the end of it, all self-doubt was replaced with loving and motivating energy, you wanted to attack the day after talking to Ryan.  Ryan had a desire to see everyone come out of their shell, step outside of the box, and become comfortable with being uncomfortable. I always had this feeling of, “What is Ryan going to teach us today? Which barrier will we break through next?” What I loved most is that Ryan understood our thought process, and the anxiety that came from performing in front of your peers. The advice Ryan would give before the start of class was one of the best parts about working with him. Ryan would walk into the room, sense the tension, and have us gather around to chat and push out the jitters. He would then go on these amazing motivational rants about why we COULD do it, how it WAS possible to become the superstars we knew ourselves to be, and state why we’d be successful, all while having a HUGE smile plastered across his face. Ryan believed in us more than anyone, every word that came out of his mouth was genuine, and when you’re in this business, having someone who truly believes in you makes all the difference in your career.

By the time Ryan finished talking, not only would he receive a round of applause, but he got star-studded promos from everyone. No matter where he is, or what role he has, if Ryan Katz is near you, thank your lucky stars because not only have you found a great mentor, but you’ve just found your biggest cheerleader, and honestly, that’s the greatest gift you could give any wrestler or person - belief in them.

Ryan Katz is an incredible leader and a phenomenal talent. It’s always a pleasure working with him. If I had to describe Ryan, I would say he’s a jack of all trades. Directing, editing, videography, creative brainstorming – he can do it all. If you are looking for someone who can take your creative needs to the next level, it’s Ryan Katz. With his passion for art & creativity wide array of life skills, infectious energy, and explosive personality Ryan Katz seems tailor made to be in a creative influential position in the world of wrestling (if not in front of the camera himself) and I was blessed to come in contact with him at the time our paths crossed. Through trial and error, and plenty of outtakes, we worked together to create an image and persona for my character throughout WWE, filming videos & promos, creating art, and gaining popularity amongst our audience - Ryan Katz was incredibly helpful, generous with his time and energy, and a great colleague.
